The 100 Greatest Movies of the 21st Century

by Esoos on June 8, 2009

The trouble with most “Greatest Movies” lists is that they have to include boring old stuff from the 50’s that nobody actually wants to watch anymore.

Sure, there’s still a few good old flicks, but if I’m going to be renting a movie for the night I want something a bit more recent. With that in mind, I present the 100 greatest movies since the year 2000 (feel free to add your own picks in the comments):

How the hell can you make a list of the top movies but not have Transformers?! WTF is wrong with you?!

2 Helen J March 18, 2010 at 7:35 pm

Hiya all

I think Twlight should be included but its not good unless you have read the books as there is more story behind it. I think the Matrix: Blade Trilogy; American Pie, Harry Potter, some r in the list that I wouldnt put in but the list has the main good films.

A few excellent movies. But the 100 greatest since 2000. NO !!

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. Who made ths list ?
This is only my opinion but I count around 20 that probably should be in there, over 50 that are very questionable, and over 20 that deffinately shouldn’t be in there. Im sorry but I dont think this list even comes close.
Please tell me this list wasn’t wrote by someone whos supposed to know about movies : )
Napoleon Dynamite !!! JESUS CHRIST !!!

4 paige March 28, 2010 at 7:05 pm

i dont know where you people pulled twilight from its not on the list

5 John? April 1, 2010 at 12:29 am

Twilight wasn’t as bad as you all are making it out to. No it doesn’t belong on a top 100 list by any means, but it wasn’t terrible.

On a side note movies i would have included are…

O Brother, Where Art Thou?
any Pirates of the Caribbean movies
Sweeney Todd
Donnie Darko
Cast Away

Those are all the movies i enjoy, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

WHOEVER SAID NAPOLEON DYNAMITE IS A HORRIBLE MOVIE: WHAT THE HELL is WRONG with YOU!!!!!!!!!?????!?!?

10 Niky May 3, 2010 at 6:43 am

The people who are bashing Twilight must not have read the movie, because that’s where you fall in love with the story. When the first movie was made the budget wasn’t big because alot wasn’t expected of it. But now that it is a hit, New Moon and the next 2 are going to be awesome!

11 Niky May 3, 2010 at 6:43 am

Shit TYPO. I meant read the BOOKS not the movie

12 mick May 7, 2010 at 11:27 am

If you are going on 21st century than nine of those movies should not be part of the list. The 21st century is 2001-2100.

22 Mr.Mojo Risin June 3, 2010 at 5:59 pm

The Machinist, Man On Fire, Training Day, The Kingdom, Apocalypto, Black Hawk Down and the Bourne Trilogy have to be there, along with a good few more!!

I don’t know why people keep asking for The Shawshank Redemption seeing as that was made in 1994!!

How could Borat, Napoleon Dynamite and Wall-E make it onto a greatest list??

(Casino Royale, Batman Begins??)

Oh and lastly, Almost Famous has to be on the list!!

33 Niall July 10, 2010 at 3:55 am

Not a bad list, but the internet is full of “boring ” lists like this that only include new or relatively new movies…your comment about boring old movies from the 50’s tells me quite a lot about you as a movie fan. What came first? The chicken or the egg? Movies from yester year are what inspire modern day directors, they grew up idolising the actors and movie makers of the 50’s and 60’s when in fact some of the greatest and still greatest films of all time were made. Case in point….All of these films that i can think of off the top of my head are ALL better than EVERY one on your list.
1. Rashoman. 2. All about eve 3. Sunset boulevard 4. Ace in the hole 5. Street car named desire 6. High noon 7. The african queen 8. Ben hur 9. From here to eternity 10. Shane 11. Tokyo story 12. Rear window 13. Seven samurai 14. Kiss me deadly 15. East of eden 16. Night of the hunter 17. The searchers 18. The bridge over the river kwai 19. 12 angry men 20. Vertigo 21. Touch of evil 22. Anatomy of a murder 23. Some like it hot 24. North by northwest 25. Rio bravo

Time to take off the blinkers and wake up to some real movies dude and not the obvious, boring, uninspired, run of the mill crap that is the last 20 years bar the natural few greats.
